Wednesday's Whisper

Hebrews 10:35

 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

Good morning, family and friends!

Yesterday, I emptied out a closet at a house that we are hoping to sell by the end of this month. Since friends of ours have lived there over the past two years, they were kind enough to let me store some things in this one closet. Oh, the stuff I found hidden away in that place, and much of it was simply junk and useless clutter. 

There were two file cabinets in that closet, and much of what was in one can be tossed or shredded (I haven't gone through the files from the other one yet - LOL!). But, if you know much about me, you know that I did not blindly throw away any file.... I had to look through each paper to make sure there weren't important things I had missed. Well, as I looked through these papers, I found old comics I had cut out, old email messages that I'd printed and saved because I thought they were worthwhile, old cards and letters from friends and family, and lots of recipes. 

While I knew that I should toss a lot of this stuff out, and I likely will eventually, I took pictures of some things before I tossed them. I am a paper hoarder of the worst sort, but in looking through these old files, I found some things that touched me deeply. There were copies of letters I had typed to some young ladies who were very special to me. Then, there were notes and cards from years back, given to us by people we had pastored. It was a paper trail of memories.

In life, we have to cast off things that weigh us down; things that hinder us in our walk with God. But, then, there are treasures we need to hold on to and never let go. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Hebrews, admonishing them to, "Cast not away therefore your confidence". He went on to say that there would be a reward if they held on to their confidence. There truly will be a reward to those who hold fast to what they have been taught and believed is Biblical and right. 

Many today are casting off morals and convictions because of the deception that is prevalent in our world. It's terribly distressing to watch the decline all around us, both in the secular realm and in the spiritual places. It is not a time to let up. It is a time of holding on to the treasures of the heart with all our might. 

Jesus is coming soon, and I am committed to holding on to Him, and casting off whatever it is that might hinder me from being saved.

I don't have a song on my heart this morning (I'm too tired from moving.... ) but I pray you all have a Wonderful Wednesday, and at some part of this day that you will hear the Lord whisper something precious to you.
