Friday's Footnote

Deuteronomy 5:16

Honour thy father and thy mother, as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

Good morning, 'tis Fabulous Friday!
It really does feel like a Fabulous Friday for me today, for this day is my precious Mom's 80th birthday! To God be all the glory for blessing her to live upon this earth for all these years. I am doubly blessed in that I was able to travel to IL to celebrate this milestone birthday with her (as well as with my younger brother and family).
What a privilege I had, from the age of nine until I married, to have lived in a godly home with two parents who raised me to fear the Lord. While my Dad was the bread winner and the rock of the home, my Mom was the heart. I learned much from her throughout my formative years. She taught me to love God, to worship and pray, and to serve others.
Mom was adept in working with her hands. I remember when she tried to teach me the art of hand sewing, her stitches were tiny and uniform while mine were larger and just the opposite. She taught me crochet, embroidery, and a little quilting. She loved to bake, and we enjoyed her pastries on many occasions. I distinctly remember once when she made a cake from a recipe in a magazine. Mom's cake looked just like the one on the magazine's cover. I was impressed!
Life has taken a toll on her body, weakening her with arthritis, but her mind is still basically strong and sound. She loves to hug and loves being hugged, and she still loves to laugh.
I don't have enough space here to say all the words of honor for this wonderful lady that I call Mom, but I am truly grateful for her impact in my life.
Here are a few words from a song by the Winans that reminds me of my Mom:
She was a very special lady
One who really shared
She was a very special woman who cared about
The things in life that only count
Truly can't you see
She was a very special lady to me

She was a very special lady
One who took out time
She would always leave her problems behind to see
That we had everything we need

And when she smiled you felt the sun rolls on your shoulder
She was that acclaim of love when life grew colder
Even though sometimes she scold you
She will come again to console you
Let her epitaph be for all the world to see
She was a very special lady to me

Even though this song was written about a grandmother who had passed away, I feel honored and blessed that my Mom is still here today to celebrate her very own special day!

Friday's footnote:
The sweetest sounds to mortals given
Are heard in Mother, Home, and Heaven.

Until tomorrow, Lord willing..................
