Friday's Footnote

John 10:10

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Good morning, one and all!
It's Friday, and there is just something special about this day - well, there is something special in EVERY day, because God has given each one to us. What will we do with this day that God has allowed us to have? The choice is ours to live this day in fear and fret, or make it the best one we've had yet!!!
Here's a good quote for this Friday:
One of the illusions of life is that the present hour is not the crucial, decisive hour. Write it on your heart that every day is the best day of the year. He only is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day who allows it to be invaded with worry, fret, and anxiety.
 - Ralph Waldo Emerson
As I read this quote by Emerson, my mind went to the verse I chose to head up today's blog post. Jesus came that we might have life, but not just life, He came that we might have it more abundantly. Sounds to me like we're supposed to be abounding with life, running over with life itself! Jesus wants us to really live - not for ourselves but for Him. He wants us to enjoy fullness of life, defining fullness as living with meaning and purpose.
What a waste this day or any day will be if we do not enjoy fullness of life in Jesus! More than gaining wealth, possessions, or fame, our lives need to be spent in a purposeful way. We need to make every moment count, rather than to idly let the day slip through our fingers.
First off, let's spend time with Jesus by reading His word and in prayer. If He is given the firstfruits of this day, the rest will flow easier. Christ is the meaning in our lives and He brings meaning to our lives, so let's use the rest of the day doing what matters most for the Lord, others and ourselves. At the end of the day, we should be able to look back and say, "This was a day well spent."
The chorus from a song that I heard the Downings sing years ago comes to mind right now:
This is the day that the Lord has made
I will rejoice and be exceedingly glad
I will lift up my eyes to whence cometh my help
My help cometh from the Lord, Great God Almighty,
That will never fail

Until tomorrow, Lord willing............  live your life fully!

Friday's footnote:
Get action, do things; be sane; don't fritter away your time; create, act, take a place wherever you are and be somebody; get action.
