Monday's Moment

Matthew 6:19-21

19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Good morning.... it is Marvelous Monday once more!

Let's be honest, we all like things, whether it's clothes, shoes, furniture, cars, houses..... we all like them! Sometimes it can be difficult to refrain from setting one's heart on these things. It is only in seeking the things of God that we are able to shift our focus from the earthy things to the spiritual things.

There is a danger is laying up treasures on earth because they can be taken away from us, but there is a tremendous blessing when we lay up treasures in heaven instead. Cars depreciate, houses always seem to need repair, clothing wears out, etc. But, heavenly things cannot ever be taken away from us nor will they ever rust or corrupt.

As my husband and I drove home from MO late, very late last night, we were listening to a CD from a male quartet some of you may remember, Teddy Huffam and the Gems. These are some of the words to a song that goes along with our spoonful for today, You Can't Take These Things With You When You Go:

Verse One

Why spend your money on things that do not satisfy
Why waste your time on things that make you cry
This world that we live in is confusing, this I know
And you can't take these things with you when you go

Chorus

Don't lay up your treasure where thieves and robbers can take
Don't bank on promises made by mortals that can fail
Just remember the heavenly promise
Eternity for your soul
And you can't take these things with you when you go

Treasures laid up in heaven will last! Let's lay them up there and keep them there.

Until tomorrow, Lord willing.............
