Saturday's Snippet

Psalm 61

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah.

Good morning, and a Sweet Saturday to all of you!

Last night, my husband and I were traveling home from a late night trip to Walmart and, as we exited from the interstate, we were enveloped in a thick fog that seemed so sudden and unexpected. We weren't far from home at this point, but the wind had picked up, leaves were blowing all around, and then the raindrops came. Neither of us had checked the weather all day long, and we just assumed no rain was in the forecast. Wrong!!

Just before we reached our house, we both voiced our gratefulness for having a garage to pull into. We finally reached home, and because of the greatness of a garage, our "shelter in the time of storm", we never got wet. What a blessing!

Last night, we praised God for a natural shelter called a garage, but during the storms of life the best shelter is Jesus Christ. When the Psalmist David was overwhelmed and cried out to the Lord, he was thankful for a rock that was higher than he was, and he acknowledged the shelter and strong tower in his life - His great God. Because of the blessings of the Lord to him, David made a commitment to His God - "I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah." That last word, "Selah", reminded me of a sermon my son-in-law preached back in May, when he told us that "Selah" meant "think about it."

I believe David thought long and hard about His God and all that He was in his life. He praised His God always, so it's no wonder that he was referred to as a "man after God's own heart." We can be just like David - grateful for the shelter that God is to us, and in our commitment to stay in His tabernacle and trust His covering. There is no shelter like the precious wings of God (or His arms). Oh, may we choose to abide in this special place forever; and trust God until the end.

An old song that I believe Lulu Roman Smith sang has come to my mind, and as I always do, I share it with you:

Safe within His arms
Safe within His arms
Whenever Satan's chasing me
I can run to You and be
Sheltered from the storm
Embraced by love so warm
No need to fear
I'm safe within His arms

Just a snippet and a spoonful to remind us all of the wonderful Rock and Shelter we have; the One with BIG WINGS and STRONG ARMS to hold us and protect us from the storms of life!

With love and a prayer for a Sweetly Sheltered Saturday to all of you......

Until tomorrow, Lord willing.............
