Matthew 28:5-6
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Good morning, and a very special Sunday morning it is!
Over the past few days, we've revisited Gethsemane and Calvary, and today finds us walking with the women, laden with spices to anoint the body of their precious Teacher, Jesus. As we walk, we're wondering how the great big stone will get rolled away. And, then, we are at the tomb. The stone is already rolled away, and there's an angel there but there is no Jesus!!
I love to imagine being there on that first Resurrection Morning. Imagine their wonder at the sight of an empty tomb. At first they didn't understand. Perhaps they thought someone had stolen His body. When they were reminded of Jesus' words to them that He would rise again on the third day - then they remembered. He's alive!! The grave no longer had a hold on Him!
Even though the calendar says this is Easter Sunday, we as Christians serve a risen Lord, and rejoice in Him every day of the year. Every Sunday is Resurrection Sunday. Because He lives, we can live also. His death, burial and resurrection are likened unto repentance, baptism, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost. What a wonderful plan of salvation!
So many songs have been written about the resurrection, making it hard to choose just one. But I like this one by Legacy Five, When They Found Nothing:
They watched as soldiers nailed their Savior to a tree
They witnessed all the anguish, the agony
They waited for His Father to rescue Him, but then
He cried out, "It is finished," He knew it was the end.
The stone that sealed the tomb, finally sealed their fate
For all their hopes now laid within that borrowed grave
And left with only questions, they pondered all He said
But answers did not matter - for now their Lord was dead.
They began their final walk to say one last goodbye
But when they reached the tomb
They could not believe their eyes
When they found nothing, they found EVERYTHING
In an empty tomb they realized
What Christ Himself prophesied
That death could never hold their King
When they found nothing, they found EVERYTHING!
Oh, Hallelujah! He is risen!
Hallelujah, Praise the Lamb!
Who conquered Death and Hell
Who died and rose again!
Wow! What a song! Words cannot fully express what it truly means to us that He lives! May our Sunday, and every day, be filled with wonder at who He is, all He has done, and all He is going to do for us throughout our lives here on earth.
Until tomorrow, Lord willing..............
