Tuesday's Tidbit

Luke 6:38

Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Good morning, family and friends!
We're blessed! We're alive and awake - all because of God's blessings. This morning I picked up one of my favorite devotionals by the late Barbara Johnson entitled, Boomerang Joy. This lady experienced quite a bit of pain and tragedy throughout her life, but in this book she talks much about passing on kindness to others and, like a boomerang, it will be returned to us.
One paragraph from her book reads like this:
"Dr. Karl Menninger, the the world-famous psychiatrist, was once answering questions after giving a lecture on mental health. Someone asked, "What would you advise a person to do if he felt a nervous breakdown coming on?" Most people expected Menninger to say, "Consult a psychiatrist." Instead he said, "Lock up your house, go across the railroad tracks, find someone in need, and do something to help that person." Dr. Menninger knew that the only difference between a stumbling block and a stepping-stone is the way you use it!"
How true and, just like the verse in Luke 6 tells us, if we give it will come back to us.... "good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over...." Once again, the age old principle - whatever we sow that's what we will reap! Give and it will come back. Withhold and we'll stay empty!
The following poem is one of my favorites, and I'll share it with you today rather than a song:
Do Something
Are you almost disgusted with life, little man?
I'll tell you a wonderful trick
That will bring you contentment, if anything can -
Do something for somebody, quick!

Are you awfully tired with play, little girl?
Wearied, discouraged, and sick?
I'll tell you the loveliest trick in the world,
Do something for somebody, quick!

Though it rains like the rain of the flood, little man,
And the clouds are forbidding and thick,
You can make the sun shine in your soul, little man,
Do something for somebody, quick!

Though the stars are like brass overhead, little girl,
And the walks like a well-heated brick,
And our earthly affairs in a terrible whirl,
Do something for somebody, quick!

Until tomorrow when, Lord willing, we will meet again, let's sow seeds of kindness everywhere we go through a handshake, a smile, a text, a call, or an email. It will amaze us all how good it will make us feel and God will amaze us with the blessing of a return.
