Friday's Footnote

Luke 22:44

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Good morning, family and friends!

Gethsemane - what a picture of extreme anguish! With the crucifixion looming before Him, Jesus found His way to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. According to what I have learned, the word gethsemane  means "olive press", and it was during this time of deep, agonizing prayer for God's will, that Jesus was pressed beyond measure. The sinless Lamb of God bore the crushing weight of the sins of the entire world!

At Gethsemane, Jesus taught us to pray for God's will in our lives; a prayer that is often agonizing. Jesus was so heavily pressed that His sweat was as great drops of blood. Crucifixion was a horrible way to die, yet Jesus was willing because He knew the importance of redeeming mankind of all their sins.

Every man who desires to surrender completely to God's will eventually experience a personal Gethsemane; a place where the flesh relinquishes control so that the Spirit becomes prominent. A pretty experience? No! We could not endure such an experience if Jesus had not shown us how, but He did. And, because He became submissive to the cross, we can gladly surrender to carry our crosses for Him.

Bill Gaither wrote a beautiful song entitled, "Have You Had a Gethsemane?".......

In the garden He went to pray
When it seemed hope was gone.
He prayed with a broken heart.
And he prayed all alone.

Have  you had a Gethsemane?
Have you prayed in despair?
In the dark of those weary hours
Did the Lord meet you there?

Have you had a Gethsemane?
Have you prayed the night through?
Have you shed tears in agony
When no hope was in you?

Have  you prayed, “If it is thy will
May this cup pass from me?
But if it’s your will, dear Lord,
I will bear it for thee?”

Friday's Footnote:  May God bless you, one and all, as we remember and reflect on the sacrifice paid for our salvation.

Until tomorrow, Lord willing............
