Tuesday's Tidbit

Proverbs 25:11

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

Good morning, to all my family and friends!

In October of 2004, I was blessed to attend a Pentecostal Writers' Conference in Hazelwood, MO. One of the instructors I sat under was Sister Barbara Westberg, a pastor's wife and proficient writer. She taught us about "word pictures" in the Bible, and I have never read this dear book the same way since. Especially in the poetry books of Psalms through Song of Solomon, one can find many word pictures. I thought I would share a few that I have found since 2004:

Psalm 98:8

Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together.
Have you ever seen clapping floods, or happy hills?

Psalm 104:3

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:

The Psalmist is referring to the Lord in this verse, but can you picture clouds made into chariots, and God walking on the wings of the wind? Quite a powerful word picture, right?

Psalm 114:4

The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

Have you ever seen mountains and little hills skipping like sheep??

Psalm 128:3

Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

This verse creates a vivid word picture. A man's wife is like a vine growing on the side of a house, and can you just picture olive plants gathering around the table to eat?

I will forever be grateful for the privilege of gleaning from Sister Westberg's wealth of knowledge during that conference, as it created a deeper hunger in me for the Book of all books - the Holy Bible! Perhaps, as you read your Bible, you will also find word pictures. Post a comment on my blog when you find one. Terrific Tuesday to you. Ta ta!!!
Until tomorrow, Lord willing..............
