Tuesday's Tidbit

Matthew 11:28-29

28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Good morning, one and all!
Today's spoonful of thankfulness is directed toward rest - I am thankful for rest, both physically and spiritually. What a blessing to lay down and sleep in a comfortable bed,  finding respite from the day's chores and gaining new strength for the day ahead.
Not only is there a blessing in natural rest, but nothing is so comforting as resting in the Lord, again, finding respite from the burdens we carry on our hearts. Jesus beckons us to come unto Him, the laborers and heavy laden, and He will give us rest. I have often read these verses from Matthew 11 and pondered the oxymoron contained within them - Jesus said to come and find rest, yet in the next verse He tells us to take a yoke upon us. Curious, isn't it? Yet, when we bring all our burdens to Him, and yoke up with Him, He helps us carry our load. We do not have to labor alone.
I like these verses:

Isaiah 28:11-12

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
There is definitely a rest whenever we get lost in the presence of the sweet Holy Ghost! No other release can be found like communion with the Lord.
Then, there is that final rest, when all our battles on earth are finished, and we are with our Lord forevermore. One other verse comes to mind relevant to our final rest:

Hebrews 4:9

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

In closing, let me share this song with you:
The Wicked Shall Cease Their Troubling
by Jessy Dixon

Chorus
The wicked shall cease their troubling
The weary shall be at rest
All the saints of the ages
We're gonna sit at His feet and be blessed
Verse One
I am just a stranger down here
This old world is not my home
You're gonna look for me one morning
But, thank God, I'll be gone on home

My prayer is that each one of us will find the natural and spiritual rest we need, and be prepared most of all for our final rest!
Have a great day, and I hope to meet you again tomorrow for yet another spoonful of thankfulness!
