Proverbs 8:11
For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
Good morning, everybody!
There is a cry being uttered! Can you hear it? It is wisdom whom we hear crying, and her cry is so unlike that of the strange woman we read about yesterday in Proverbs 7. The strange woman used flattering and subtle words along with her brazenness but wisdom speaks excellent and right things.
To further describe wisdom, she speaks truth and righteousness, abhorring all evil. To find wisdom is to discover treasures worth more than silver, gold, or rubies. She "rooms" with prudence (good judgment) and knowledge; working together, they invent many things. Along with wisdom, we find the fear of the Lord and, with that fear comes a hatred of all that is evil.
There is strength when one possesses wisdom and understanding. She is the reason for every good king's reign. Wisdom loves those who love her, and makes herself available to those who seek for her, bringing gifts to them of riches and honor - "durable riches." Follow where wisdom leads for her path is one of righteousness and good judgment. The reward of loving wisdom is to inherit abundant substance and treasures.
Wisdom has been around since the beginning. Colossians 2:3 declares, "In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." Jeremiah 51:15 also declares, "He hath made the world by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heaven by his understanding." As God created the world and all that is within it, wisdom was there, because our God is an all-wise God.
As we come to the end of Chapter 8, we are reminded again to seek for wisdom on a daily basis. Love wisdom, embrace wisdom, for the reward in doing so is to find life, favor with the Lord, and many blessings. Wisdom is worth seeking after, and definitely worth finding and holding onto!
I'm grateful for the admonition we can receive from the Book of Proverbs, and may we all continue our daily treasure hunt, searching for wisdom, understanding, and all virtues that will make us more Christ-like.
Thank you for joining me for Day 8 in Perusing the Proverbs. Lord willing, I'll see you tomorrow for yet another spoonful...........
