Wednesday's Whisper

Proverbs 5:21

For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his goings.

Good morning, friends and family; a Wonderful Wednesday to all of you!
Today brings us to day 5, Chapter 5 in our Perusing the Proverbs during the month of August. Although I have read this book of the Bible several times, I am gaining new knowledge as we walk through its wealth of instruction and admonition.
Solomon continues to instruct his son, pleading with him to "bow thine ear to my understanding". It was important that the son not only listen to what was being said, but that he hear what his father had to say. Solomon spoke not for the benefit of hearing himself talk but he wanted his son to make wise choices and live a godly, righteous, and fulfilling life.
How very important is the advice given in Chapter 5 - for every young person!! The "strange woman" speaks with smooth, enticing words to draw the unsuspecting soul down a treacherous path which will ultimately destroy him. Her "ways are moveable" - she is unstable so that you never know what she's really thinking. I have witnessed far too many young people who refused pastoral or parental advice and they were seduced by the "strange woman". The end result was devastating.
Verses 11-14 give us the lament of a person who did not heed the instruction of their mentors and teachers. Their bodies and souls have been tainted by their seducers, leaving them an embarrassment to their family, friends, and neighbors. If only they had listened to the wisdom offered them!
Solomon further instructed his son to fall in love and marry the "wife of thy youth." Be satisfied with the waters of your own well. Let your mate be the one that satisfies you and not some stranger, because the Lord is watching!
Those who fail to live by instruction will die without it. How thankful we should be that someone instructed us when we were young, and we listened. Years ago, an evangelist's wife gave me a very small booklet with a big title, Keep Thyself Pure. Within the pages of that tiny book, I found helpful, godly advice that I took to heart. How blessed I was that someone took time to share with me valuable information.
Everyone who obeys the word of God, and the instructions from godly parents, pastors or teachers will be blessed in this life and in the one to come.
May God bless us as we pursue a higher calling in Him. Until tomorrow, Lord willing.......
