Proverbs 16:6
By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
Good morning, and a Special Sunday I hope it is for all of us!
Thanks for joining me in our Perusing the Proverbs, Day 16, Chapter 16. In today's reading, four verses seem to coincide (in my way of thinking). Verses 1, 2, 9, and 33. They all seem to indicate that we can make our plans but the Lord will have the final say-so in the matter.
Verse three instructs us to commit our works to the Lord; He will establish our thoughts.
Verse four tells us that the Lord has made all things for himself. (See also Revelation 4:11)
The word "abomination" appears quite a few times in the book of Proverbs. The definition for abomination is something greatly disliked or abhorred. The Lord greatly dislikes the proud in heart; they will not go unpunished.
Mercy and truth purge us from iniquity, and by fearing the Lord, we depart from evil.
For years, verse 7 was quoted often in our house. If we please the Lord, He will make our enemies at peace with us.
It's better to have a little and be right than to be wrong and have an abundance.
The Lord will guide the king in judgment.
Verse eleven is once again instructing us to be fair in our business dealings.
For kings to be wicked is an abomination to the Lord; thrones were established to be right.
Right talk pleases the king.
A wise man will appease the anger of the king.
I like verse 15 for it seems to speak of the King of kings. Jesus is the light, and in the light of HIS countenance we find life. And He brings the latter rain (or the Holy Ghost).
Verse 16 once again tells us how good it is to get wisdom. It is better than gold, and understanding is "rather to be chosen than silver!"
The highway of the upright leads away from evil. Keep your feet on the right path and preserve your soul.
Verse 18 is a verse that I memorized as a child and it's still true. Pride precedes destruction. To be haughty brings about a fall.
Verse 19 goes along with verse 8. It's better to be humble and hang around with the lowly than to "divide the spoil" with the proud.
It's best to handle matters wisely and, if we trust in the Lord, happy are we.
Those who are wise in heart will be called discerning. To speak graciously promotes instruction.
If we have understanding within us, we have a well-spring of life. But, all the fools have is their folly.
The wise in heart teach their mouth and add learning to their lips. Wise people are always learning good things.
Pleasant words are like honey. They are sweet to the soul, and health to our bones.
Verse 25 is also a repeat from another chapter. It is wise to know THE WAY (Jesus), and not just think we're right.
To be hungry will cause a man to labor.
Ungodly men dig up evil. Their lips are a burning fire.
A contrary man sows seeds of strife. And, someone who gossips separates good friends.
Violent people entice their neighbors but that way is not good. He's always thinking of evil. Just the moving of his lips brings evil to pass.
Gray hair is a crown of splendor, IF that person is found walking the right path.
It is so much better to be slow to anger because that person is mighty. A person who has control of his spirit is better than "he that taketh a city."
We are once more at the end of another chapter. I've expressed my thoughts, and I hope you've written down your own. There's so much to learn from the book of Proverbs. There is much to apply to our daily lives.
Have a blessed and special Sunday in the presence of the Lord and, if He is willing, I'll see you tomorrow...........
