Friday's Footnote

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Good morning - Fabulous Friday, Friends!
FAITH - a rather small word with a very large meaning. I was trying to come up with my own definition of this word, and all I could simply say is that to me it means something is there even when it isn't there. Or, it's like holding something when at the moment you're holding nothing. I realize these personal definitions are a little strange, but faith is rather difficult to define sometimes.
I love the story of Abraham, and I've always loved this verses:
Romans 4:18-21
18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:
20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
Again, if I could input my own definition here... Abraham held a baby even when there was no baby to hold. I love these phrases, "Who against hope believed in hope...... And being not weak in faith...... He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief..."
What a man, and what a wife he had, because Sarah had to believe, as well. When all hope seemed gone that they would ever receive their promise from God of a son, they were strong in faith. They believed in a God that was able to perform!
That same God still performs today, so we must hold on to our faith, following the example of dear Brother Abraham & Sister Sarah.
Once more, here's a song to go along with this spoonful of tonic....
Just Keep Holding On To Faith
by Karen Harding
Just keep holding to faith
Just keep holding on to God's amazing grace
Sometimes you're going to walk through the valley
of the shadow of death
Fear no evil from the right or the left
Just keep holding on to faith

Friday's footnote: "Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase." - Martin Luther King, Jr.
Hold on to faith in our Father.... He remains faithful!
Until tomorrow, Lord willing.............
