Thursday's Thought

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Good morning, to anyone and everyone reading today's post!

I just looked up the word "cast" and found this interesting definition - "throw (something) forcefully in a specified direction"; and I realized that definition beautifully correlates with today's verse. Why, oh, why, do we go through life carrying all sorts of baggage, when God's word plainly declares that we should cast them on Him? 

What is the purpose of casting our cares off on someone else anyway? To lighten our load, perhaps; or, so we can be free. Why should we cast them on the Lord? Because HE CARES for us!!! He wants to carry every care we have. He is able to carry every care we have. If I cast my cares on the Lord, and a thousand others do the same, we have not overloaded the Lord at all. He's bigger than any mountain that we can or cannot see.

How do we get rid of these unwanted critters called cares? In prayer, the best place of all, to begin throwing and flinging everything that is causing us stress. I remember mentioning an old hymn in an earlier post, but it goes along with today's thought, too:

What a friend we have in Jesus

All our sins and griefs to bear

What a privilege to carry

Everything to God in prayer

O what peace we often forfeit

O what needless pain we bear

All because we do not carry 

Everything to God in prayer

We have a Friend - the greatest Friend of all - waiting to bear our burdens, if we will only cast them on Him. He's calling us to spend time alone with Him because He knows, and we will ultimately know (if we answer His call), that we will leave lighter after our visit.
