Wednesday's Whisper

Hebrews 13:14

For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.

Good morning, friends!

Since my husband is an evangelist, we live on the road most of the time with our dwelling place being a motor home that we are grateful to have. But, occasionally we get to come home to a place that is not on wheels. Just recently, while at our "real house", I pondered the question, "Where IS home?" My definition of home at this time is a place of belonging; something permanent. In a short while we will be heading back to the motor home, and I guess the thought of home is still strong on my mind.

My first recollection of a song that talked about home was one with these lyrics, "Anywhere is home if Christ my Lord is there." After I got older, I heard a beautiful song sung by Tanya Goodman:

Home, where there is no night
Home, where the Son is the light
The place I've been dreaming of so long
Loved ones there to welcome me
But His sweet face will be the first I see
When my journey's over, I am going home

In I Peter 2:11, the Apostle Peter refers to us as "strangers and pilgrims" - people on the move. Home really isn't here on this earth. We are like Abraham in that we are "looking for a city," and seeing that city is surely in the near future. Then, and only then, will we truly be home.

Some years back, I heard a sweet song by Debra Talley, and I love the story within it:

"A penny for your thoughts," I said to the old man
As he sat there on the park bench, all alone
With silver hair, and wrinkled brow, eyes gleamin'
He smiled and said, "Just thinkin' ' bout my home"
I sat down and we shared some laughs together
And the cinema of remembrance, it did roam
We talked about life's gains and its losses
But mostly, he just talked about his home

He said, "I'm thinkin' 'bout home
Thinking 'bout going home
Dreamin' 'bout leavin' here, ready to be movin' on
It won't be long before the sun goes down and I'll be gone
But until then, I'll be thinkin' 'bout home"

I said, "Tell me, old man, where's your home
And what's it like?"
He said, "Oh, ain't nothin' down here that compares
You see, a King had it built and gave the deed to me
And all my family's already there"

So, fellow sojourners on this Christian journey, walk on, enjoying the trip. Soon, and very soon, we'll truly be HOME - forever with our Lord!

Until tomorrow, Lord willing.................
