Friday's Footnote

Psalm 139

O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

Good morning, a Fabulous Friday morning, to all my family and friends!
I stand in awe of the fact that God Almighty knows all about me. David referred to it as "my downsitting and mine uprising", while I like to think about it as "my strengths and my weaknesses". The all-seeing eye of God searches our hearts, probing deeply into all our thoughts and intents. He knows us. We cannot put on a happy face for God without the realization that He really knows whether we're happy or not.
He is all around us. We do not take a step without Him being there. He knows all our ways, too. He knows our moods, our phobias, our idiosyncrasies - everything about us. Whether we are shy or outgoing; studious or adventurous; spontaneous or a planner - He knows.
Not one word that we speak or think of speaking is unknown to God. In some instances, this can be quite disturbing! Death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), so with God knowing what we are saying or about to say, well, it's important to be swift to hear and slow to speak (James 1:19).
All in all, these verses assure us of the close relationship David had with his God, but the assurance did not stop with David. He's OUR God, and we can be as David was - people after "God's own heart" (Acts 13:22). If God knows all about me, then He is the only one who can strengthen what is weak within me; helping my "downs" become "ups"!
It is a great solace to us that God knows. Let me leave with you another song (written by Kelly & Annie McRae), about God knowing.......
He knows my name
Every step that I take
Every move that I make
Every tear that I cry
He knows my name
When I'm overwhelmed by the pain
Can't see the light of day
I know I'll be just fine
'Cause He knows my name
May your Friday be a fine day, or a fun day..... but above all, a day of feeling close to our Father!

Friday's Footnote: "Every happening, great and small, is a parable whereby God speaks to us, and the art of life is to get the message." ~Malcolm Muggeridge

Until tomorrow, Lord willing...............
