Wednesday's Whisper

1 Samuel 9:15

Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying,

This particular Bible verse has always brought a smile to my face. I have found something very precious within it. The Lord was speaking in close proximity to His prophet, Samuel; speaking into his ear. Whether it was a whisper or not, there's an indication in this setting of a close relationship between Almighty God and mortal man. My mind goes back to my childhood days when a dear friend and I exchanged whispers (and often giggles) as we shared a bit of humor or other worthwhile story.  But, to hear The Lord whispering in your ear - now that's profound beyond measure.

The Prophet Elijah (1Kings 19), running for his life, heard a great, strong wind ripping through the mountains, then he felt the shaking caused by an earthquake, followed by the noise of a raging fire. While all of these events moved him, yet what really caught his attention was the still small voice. When Elijah heard God's whisper, he knew it was time to pay attention! God spoke to Elijah words of instruction, and included a simple message that he was not alone in his fight against evil.

While it's delightful to hear God whispering to us, He wants to hear us whisper to Him! I'm reminded of a song I learned when I was young:

Whisper a prayer in the morning
Whisper a prayer at noon
Whisper a prayer in the evening
To keep your heart in tune

Even though we are surrounded by the noise of everyday life, it is important to tune our ears to THE ONE who gently calls out to us, whispering our names and speaking words of comfort and hope. He still speaks!

Wonderful Wednesday Whispers to you......
