Psalm 18:6-9
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
7 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.
8 There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.
9 He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.
Good morning, one and all!
We have awakened to a beautiful Thursday morning here in Nederland, TX. I hope your morning is as pretty where you are living.
I heard a minister preach from Psalm 18 some years back. The title of his message was, "When God Moves out of His Place." Wow! I still remember the impact of his preaching after all these years. You see, right before that service (and it was a camp meeting service in Jayess, MS), I heard that a friend of mine was going into surgery for a tumor on her spine. They feared it was cancer.
At the ending of the message, the minister challenged the congregation to come forward if they needed God to move for them. I could not get to the front altar area because there were so many people, but I lifted my hands, asking God to "move out of His place" for my friend, Kathy.
The next day, I received a call from a friend stating that Kathy's surgery had gone well and the cancer was contained in a sac on her spine. When they checked, all around that sac was free and clear. God had moved for my friend.
The 18th Psalm was written when the Lord delivered David from his enemy, Saul. David was in distress so he called on the only One who could deliver. I love the words, "...he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled....." Then, in verse 9... "He bowed the heavens also, and came down........" God came down!!!!
What are you fighting today? Is it an enemy that always seems to be pursuing you? Follow David's example and call out to God; your cry will get God's attention and He will come down for you - TODAY!!
Here is a fairly new chorus that I love:
Awesome
by Charles Jenkins
My God is awesome
He can move mountains
Keep me in the valley
Hide me from the rain
My God is awesome
Heals me when I'm broken
Gives strength where I've been weakened
Forever He will reign
David's God was awesome, and He's our God today - still awesome... He never changes!
May your Thursday be tremendous and thunderous as God comes down to deliver you in your distress!!
Hope to see you again tomorrow!!
