1 Peter 1:18-19
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
Good morning - Marvelous Monday - to you all!
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about being redeemed. What does the word redeemed mean? I found this definition and it seemed to fit my topic on this post today:
gain or regain possession of (something) in exchange for payment
Years ago I heard a story about a little boy who built himself a small sailboat. He took it to the water and watched as his boat sailed but, then all of a sudden, the boat got away from him and he lost his precious boat.
Some time passed and one day he saw his precious boat in the window of a store. He went in and, trying hard to be patient and kind, said to the owner, "That's my boat in your window."
"I found that boat, young man, and it's mine now," the owner replied.
"But I made it with my own hands and I lost it when I set it to sail for the very first time."
"I'm very sorry you lost yours. I could sell you this one, though, if you'd like, offered the man.
The boy was rather upset. "How much do you want for it? I want to buy it back."
The man quoted him a price, an amount that would take all the boy had in his pocket. He gladly handed over all his money and, once more, held in his hands his beloved boat.
That story reminds me of what Jesus did for us. We were His creation, His possession but, because of sin, He "bought us back" by shedding His blood on Calvary. We were not redeemed by silver or gold, but by a greater price.... the blood (all the blood) of Jesus Christ bought our souls. He gave everything He had to buy us back.
Yesterday, the story of the little boy came back to me as I heard this song in church:
I Am Redeemed
by Jesse Dixon
Verse One
Where there is hate, love now abides,
Where there was confusion, peace now reigns
I'm a child, child of the King
It's all because I am redeemed.
Chorus
I am redeemed, bought with a price
Jesus has changed my whole life
If anybody asks you just who I am
Tell them I am redeemed
Verse Two
I'll tell of His favor, I'll tell of His love
I'll tell of His goodness to me
He purchased my redemption with His own precious blood
And from sin I've been set free
Verse Three
There's no shackles on me, I'm as free as I can be
Because Jesus changed my life
He died up on the cross, that's why I can tell
The whole world that I am redeemed
Verse Four
If you run across anybody that used to know me
Tell them I'm doing fine
The last time that you saw me, I was lifting up holy hands
I'll tell them I've been redeemed
What a wonderful thought it is to know that we are redeemed. We are no longer held under bondage to Satan because Jesus died for us. When we repented, were baptized in His name for the remission of our sins, and filled with His wonderful Holy Ghost.... we were born again! Our sins have been remitted through the blood of Jesus Christ! I am a grateful, redeemed soul today!
Have a Marvelous Monday with the Master!!! Hope to see you again tomorrow!
