Luke 24:28-32
28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.
29 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.
30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.
31 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.
32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?
Good morning - 'tis a Marvelous Monday morning once again, family and friends!
What a great Sunday we had! The power of God was so rich, real and full during both services yesterday. People were touched by God's love and His Spirit. There's something so special about being in the presence of Jesus!
In Luke 24, several events are recorded, from the women finding the empty tomb then going to tell Peter and the other apostles about it; on to the road leading to Emmaus where the two men walked with Jesus; His sudden appearing to the apostles, where He instructed them, "And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." (Luke 24:49); ending with His ascension. Our focus today is centered on the men who walked the road to Emmaus right along with Jesus but yet, "their eyes were holden that they should not know him." (Luke 24:16). After they reached the village and Jesus gave the impression of going further but agreed to stay longer with them after they constrained Him to do so, then as He blessed and broke the bread, their eyes were opened and they knew Him. They had felt a burning in their hearts as they had walked with Jesus, but something in the way He blessed and broke the bread made everything clear. They were in awe that they had walked that day with Jesus!
We do not see Jesus through natural eyesight, as ours is a walk of faith. Nevertheless, we are still walking with Him today, and we sense His presence and the burning in our souls to know that He is with us wherever we go. He's still blessing and breaking bread even today when we feast with Him at church, hearing His word and worshipping Him. Even outside of church, Jesus will feast with us!
Some years back, the Hinsons sang this chorus on one of their live albums. I haven't heard it in a long time, but it has such a sweet message:
I'll never be the same again
I'll never be the same again
Since I've walked where Jesus walked
I'll never be the same again
Enjoy the presence of God today - in your living room, kitchen, laundry room, office.... He's there!
Have a Marvelous Monday and, Lord willing, we'll see you tomorrow for another spoonful!
