Wednesday's Whisper

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Good morning to all of you on this Wonderful Wednesday!
During the Sermon on the Mount, those who were present were given invaluable nuggets of truth by Jesus. He taught so much to them in just that one setting. In the sixth chapter alone, He taught them about giving, praying, fasting, and where to lay up their treasures. I'm grateful for the written Word so that years later those nuggets of truth could be mine!
Memorization of Scriptures was instilled in me early on in my walk with God, and our focus verse today was among the first that I learned. Years later, this verse often comes to my mind during prayer time, especially when life's busyness distracts me from my real goal. Seeking God and His righteousness must always be at the top of my list of priorities. So many times I have seen this scripture fulfilled in that, after I have sought after God, the other things WERE added to me, just like Jesus said!
We are not to worry about clothing, shelter and food, because Jesus knows we need all these things. Why is it so easy to worry rather than simply leaving things in the hands of the Lord? Whenever worries beset us, all we need to do is look at the lilies of the field. Such dainty, beautiful flowers, adorned by God's own hand. Solomon's royal attire cannot even hold a light to what God has designed.
The Lord cares about the fowls of the air, too. Our feathered friends don't plant seeds, or till gardens, nor put away for the winter because they are cared for by their Maker. And, as Jesus said it best, "Are ye not much better than they?" (Matthew 6:26). If they are fed by the Master, so much more will we be fed.
I had another song on my mind, but I just thought of this sweet song, Consider the Lilies, written by Joel Hemphill:
Verse One
Consider the lilies, they don't toil nor spin
But there's not a king with more splendor than them
Consider the sparrows, they don't plant nor sow
But they're fed by the Master, who watches them grow
Chorus
We have a Heavenly Father above
With eyes full of mercy,
And a heart full of love
He really cares when your head is bowed low
Consider the lilies,
And then you will know
Verse Two
May I introduce you to this Friend of mine
Who hangs out the stars and tells the sun when to shine
He kisses the flowers each morning with dew
But He's not too busy to care about you
What a God who cares for us like no other! What comfort in knowing that He knows what we need and, if we seek Him first, all the other things will follow. We are so blessed.
Be "Wowed" by our Wonderful and Wise God today, the One who whispers, "Do not worry, just trust Me."
Until tomorrow, Lord willing...............
