Friday's Footnote

Zephaniah 3:17

17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Psalm 32:7

Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Good morning, family and friends!
The Lord is good and He has granted us another Fabulous Friday! Every day is a good day simply because God is good. Alice Morse Earle penned this quote: "Every day may not be good.... but there's something good in every day." So true, Alice!
A pastor's wife, speaking to a group of ladies, said,"It's hard to be sad when you're singing." Again, that was a very true statement. You cannot remain down in the dumps long if you begin to sing. Sweet, godly lyrics and melodies are one of life's sweetest lifts.
Zechariah wrote that, "he will joy over thee with singing." Seems to me the Lord is singing over US!! Wow! THE Giver of Song is singing over simple humans like me! Then, we read in Psalm 32:7 that the Lord, "shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance." The Lord sings over us with joy, and He surrounds us with songs of deliverance. How can we be sad or low with all of God is around us so?
Here's an old hymn that came to my mind this morning, and one that I still love after all these years:
He Keeps Me Singing
by Luther B. Bridgers

Verse One
There's within my heart a melody
Jesus whispers sweet and low
Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still
In all of life's ebb and flow
Refrain (Chorus)
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Sweetest name I know
Fills my every longing
Keeps me singing as I go
Verse Two
All my life was wrecked by sin and strife
Discord filled my heart with pain
Jesus swept across the broken strings
Stirred the slumb'ring chords again
Verse Three
Feasting on the riches of His grace
Resting 'neath His shelt'ring wing
Always looking on His smiling face
That is why I shout and sing
Verse Four
Though sometimes He leads through waters deep
Trials fall across the way
Though sometimes the path seems rough and steep
See His footprints all the way
Verse Five
Soon He's coming back to welcome me
Far beyond the starry sky;
I shall make my way to worlds unknown
I shall reign with Him on high

Have a Fabulous Friday with our Faithful Father and Friend! Trusting we'll be back again tomorrow...

Friday's footnote:
From what I read this morning, Rev. Bridges wrote the above hymn after receiving a phone call (while he was out-of-state preaching) that his wife and three sons had perished in a house fire.
From his tragedy emerged a beautiful hymn. The Giver of Song knows just when to send the words and the music!!
