Proverbs 29:18
King James Version
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
English Standard Version
Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.
Good morning, Sweet Saturday, to you all!
Last night, we attended a transition service in Highlands, TX - the older father/pastor retiring, and the younger son taking up the mantle to keep the church going in a forward, godly direction. A beautiful service, and the minister who delivered the main message of the evening used the above scripture (with several different translations) as his text.
The preaching was anointed, and the challenge given was the importance of a prophet in our lives. Not a king, but an anointed man with a prophetic word from the Lord. Without that prophetic vision, people cast off restraint. A man of God, led by God, anointed by God... that's what we need in our churches today.
How grateful I am for the ministers God has placed over me in my life; men who have lived for God, and who have followed Him in leading His people. Where would I be if I had not had men of vision leading me? May I never forget the ministers who have delivered to me the word of God, as well as godly instruction for living.
Thank God for the Preacher
by Jason Crabb and Gerald Crabb
Verse One
As I walk down the street of a sin-stricken city
I see the misfortunes of men
A man in the gutter lying there lifeless
Clutching a bottle in hand
He was some mother's darling
Maybe some young man's father
But, now he's a prisoner to sin
No hugs in the morning and no family altar
He gets by the best way he can
Chorus
Thank God for the preacher who told me of Jesus
For I'd be a beggar if not for His grace
Lord, help me show others Your love and Your mercy
Make my life a witness to others, I pray
Verse Two
At a little white church house at an old tear-stained altar
A prayer for God's mercy was heard
Though his sins were many and his burdens heavy
He took the Lord at His word
The angels rejoiced as he was forgiven
Shouts filled the temple that day
I will never get over that trip to the altar
For I was that sinner who prayed
I hope you'll join me in reflecting and thanking God for the preacher(s) in your life today. Enjoy your Saturday. May it be sweetened by the Spirit of the Lord.
See you tomorrow, Lord willing!
