Saturday's Snippet

Hebrews 6:18-19

18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;

Good morning, one and all!
What a beautiful day we have awakened to see, all because of the mercy and grace of God!
Last night, we attended the tenth anniversary service of Pastor & Sister Smith in Tylertown, MS. A beautiful service it turned out to be, with at least forty ministers in attendance, the local church members, as well as people from quite a few states, all in honor of a family that has devoted themselves to laboring for the Lord in this small, rural town. The presence of the Lord was rich, and the accolades poured out on this family were well-deserving.
Prior to the service, I had prayed for something specific from the Lord, and He heard and answered my prayer. Rev. Tommy Jackson, a longtime preacher of the gospel (and a pastor of over forty years), and a wonderful friend, delivered a most encouraging sermon to us. If my memory serves me right, the title was - A Refuge of Hope. I'm sure many of us left with more hope than we came!
Hebrews 6:19 mentions that this hope we have is an "anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast..." Imagine a boat tied to the dock during a storm. That boat may reel and rock, swaying too and fro from the effects of the wind but, if it has a good anchor, it's going to still be standing when the storm passes. So it is with our hope in the Lord Jesus Christ - it is the anchor of our soul. The storms come, not of our own choosing, but because we live in a broken world. But, our anchor holds us secure during all kinds of inclement weather.
A few lyrics from this song were mentioned at the closing of the sermon, so I decided to add the full song to today's blog post:
In Times Like These
(Ruth Cye Jones - Mother Jones)

Verse One
In times like these, we need a Savior
In times like these, we need an anchor
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
Chorus
This Rock is Jesus, Yes, He's the One
This Rock is Jesus, the only One
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
Verse Two
In times like these, oh, be not idle
In times like these, we need the Bible
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock
Verse Three
In times like these, I have a Savior
In times like these, I have an anchor
I'm very sure, I'm very sure
My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock

May we rejoice today that we have an anchor, not one made of natural substance, but a Divine and Eternal Anchor, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is our anchor of hope in a hopeless world.
Trusting your Saturday is extra-sweet and, Lord willing, we'll meet again tomorrow for another spoonful!
