Thursday's Thought

Psalm 3

Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

Good morning, everybody!
I remember hearing Psalm 3 sung by a choir years ago, and I heard it sung again this week by a group of praise singers at a conference. It's been going over and over in my mind, so I re-read this psalm this morning one more time and decided to just print the entire chapter in today's blog post.
The heading of this psalm indicates that it was written by David when he fled from his own son, Absalom. It's hard to imagine the depth of David's emotions during this time of his life. Running from one's own son, how tragic! Some said that he would receive no help from God. But David acknowledged that, in spite of his opposition, he knew that God was his shield, the "glory, and the lifter up of mine head."
David cried to the Lord, and the Lord heard him. So confident was David in knowing that his cry had been heard that he slept. He was at peace. His heart was fixed that he would not be afraid of "ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about."
When it's all said and done, the Lord will be the avenger; He is the one who will bring down the wicked who rise against the righteous. Salvation belongs to the Lord, and his blessing is on His people - that's us!!!  What comfort! What consolation!
Whatever you are going through today, read Psalm 3 and listen to a choir sing this psalm. May it refresh you, comfort you, and strengthen you!
Enjoy your Thursday and, Lord willing, I'll see you tomorrow for another spoonful!
