Wednesday's Whisper

Psalm 19:9-11

⁹ The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.

¹⁰ More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

¹¹ Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

Good morning - and a Wonderful Wednesday to all of you!

I was listening to an Adventures in Odyssey story yesterday, and the topic dealt with how the heirs of a deceased lady were treating all her belongings. Jason Whittaker was handling the estate sale for this family and seemed very troubled that they were parting with "everything, and I mean everything." His father, John Avery Whittaker replied, "Some people only see the price of things and not the value of them." It struck a chord in my heart.

If I were the deceased and my children were going through my stuff, what would they choose to save? Would they only be interested in selling off furniture in order to make money, or would they hold on to some of the books and other treasures that I had left behind? Would they really treasure most the memories, and the life that I had lived for God?

Along spiritual lines, how do WE as Christians look at the things or blessings of the Lord that He has given us? Is the bulk of our interest centered around the tangible things that the Lord has blessed us to have and hold, like clothing, cars, houses, and lands? Or do we see the true value of the intangible things we have from Him - the Holy Ghost, redemption, forgiveness, mercy (new every day), truth, love, and His fellowship? 

David said it best in the verses above when he wrote about the judgments of the Lord, how true and righteous they were, how sweet they were, "and in keeping of them there is great reward." It is so important to hold on to what we know is right; treasuring most the intangible and extremely valuable treasures the Lord has given us.
