Colossians 2:2-3
2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Good morning to all my family and friends!
Yesterday, my husband and I enjoyed visiting with the family of one of our sisters-in-law. The food and fellowship were great in spite of the hot weather. Some of the adventurous ones rode 4-wheelers and had a dusty but good time together on their chosen trail.
Just before we all parted to return to our homes, one twelve-year-old girl, Morgan, with a shoe box in hand, sought out to gather some dirt to put into her box for a school assignment which was due today. After putting the dirt into her box, she was going to bury some things within the dirt. At school today, she would pass her box on to another student and receive one in return. If I heard correctly, each student would search for the "treasures" hidden inside the dirt and report their findings. It sounded rather intriguing to me. I wonder how it turned out.
This morning I had Morgan and her project on my mind, and then I thought of the treasures we have in Christ. We have treasures within reach, within grasp. Sometimes it may seem as if we are digging through dirt to get to something worthwhile but, when we find a treasure from the Lord, it is exciting! Our last focus verse today says that in God are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Perhaps God, like Morgan, has placed treasures for us to find in this box filled with dirt we call life. He's hoping we'll take the time to search for these treasures. They are not just lying on the surface; they are hidden and only those with spiritually inquisitive minds will search them out.
I feel inspired to go on another spiritual treasure hunt, looking diligently in the Scriptures to find something special from the Lord. I hope you feel the same way. It's a hunt we can and should go on each day of our lives. We will never find out all the treasures of the Lord because His thoughts and ways far surpass ours.
Here's a sweet song that I used to sing in church a lot:
He Filled a Longing
by Joel Hemphill
Verse One
Along the pathway of dark despair
All broken-hearted, bowed down with care
I met the Master, and I knew Him there
He filled a longing down in my soul
Chorus
I searched for Him, and knew not what I searched for
I longed for Him, and knew not what I longed for
Then I found Jesus and knew that I would search no more
He filled a longing down in my soul
Verse Two
If you've been bruised by the chains of sin
And you are searching for peace within
I know a Savior, He'll make you whole
He'll fill that longing down in your soul
I'm glad I searched and found the Lord, more happy that He searched for me and found me! O what a treasure He is to me!
God bless you with a Terrific Tuesday. Lord willing, I'll see you tomorrow.....
