Psalm 76:11
Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
Good morning, and a Special Sunday to each one of you!
As I awoke this morning, the first morning into my 63rd year of living, I reflected on yesterday (my birthday). On Friday night, I actually threw my own party (yes, I did!) with a couple who we are close friends with, along with my husband and I. We grilled hamburgers and I made potato salad and baked beans. For dessert, we had angel food cake topped with strawberries and whipped cream. My husband and friends gave gifts to me, and I also received a few cards from out-of-state friends. I was delighted with my new treasures. The people and what they presented made me feel loved and appreciated.
Today is the Lord's day and I have loved our focus verse for many years. As we enter into the presence of the Lord today at church, I would like to ask of us: What will we bring to the Lord today? What present do we plan to present to Him? Do you think the Lord would mind if we throw Him a party???
Many years ago, I remember a minister impressing on his flock to always bring an offering. In other words, don't come to church empty-handed. Maybe sixty or seventy years ago, people might have brought offerings of food to church as their offering. But, they brought something to give to the Lord.
So, will we bring Him a monetary offering? That is so important to keep our churches running. But, how about a heart that's filled with praise; one that is not going to be distracted by the day's events. Let's bring Him true worship. A warm smile for all we meet. A hug to someone who needs it most. A handshake to other church goers. Sing unto the Lord with all our hearts - a true gift for the Giver of the Song.
The lyrics of a sweet song by the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is on my mind this morning. It's actually from a Christmas album (Light of the World), but it fits today's blog:
I'll Give Him My Heart
Verse
What can I give Him, poor as I am
If I were a shepherd, I would bring Him a lamb.
If I were a wise man, I'd sure do my part
So what can I give Him
I'll give Him my heart
I'll give Him my heart
I'll give Him my heart
What can I give Him
But all of my heart
I'll give Him my heart
Give Him my heart
What can I give Him
But all of my heart
Chorus
What can you give Him
What can you bring?
What can you offer
That's fit for a King
Bow before Jesus
That's where you can start
What can you give Him
Just give Him your heart
Enjoy your Sunday in the presence of the King of kings and Lord of lords. He deserves every gift we give Him today, and more.
Lord willing, I will see you tomorrow...........
