Colossians 3:12
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Good morning, everybody!!
Thank God for another day to be alive, awake, and able to go about our daily chores!
Last night, our church had a prayer meeting and a wonderful move of God was present while we were all together. It was refreshing to see so many who took the time to come out and talk to the Lord collectively. I love to hear the voices of God's people raised in prayer, and I know God truly loves it more than I do.
We prayed specifically for quite a number of people; we prayed for each other; and we prayed for the pastor and his wife. I was keenly aware that among us there were so many needs, not just for ourselves, but family members and friends. All around us people are in need and they are hurting.
One request was made for the grandson of one gentleman's co-worker. This young child is in St. Jude's Hospital, which means he has likely been diagnosed with something dreadful. My heart bled to hear of this child's need, and immediately I wondered, "What can I do?" My husband and I travel extensively evangelizing, but I so often miss touching lives around my home. I awoke this morning wondering how I could show some kindness to the family of this little boy before we have to leave for other places.
Our focus verse talks about putting on the bowels of mercies and kindness. Jesus Christ was our example while He walked among men, touching lives and showing kindness wherever He went. He cared about hungry multitudes so He fed them. When the disciples tried to keep children from coming near Jesus, He rebuked the disciples, then He welcomed the children to come near to Him. In Matthew 8, we read that Jesus touched a leper and the leper was cleansed. Others might have shunned this diseased man, but not Jesus. The needs were there, Jesus saw the needs, then He did something to meet the needs.
My heart is very concerned about quite a few that I know who are hurting, and I trust that you share my feelings. It takes so little time to write out a card and mail it, or make a call if you know the person. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own lives that we overlook someone who really needs a hug or a kind word of encouragement.
I thought of this song from long ago to go along with today's spoonful:
Try a Little Kindness
by Curt Sapaugh and Bobby Austin
Verse One
If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he's sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and say, "You're going the wrong way."
Chorus
You got to try a little kindness
Show a little kindness
Shine your light so everyone can see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you'll overlook the blindness
Of the narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets
Verse Two
Don't walk around down and out
Lend a helping hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day
Will help someone along their way
May the Lord renew a spirit of kindness in all of us. The seeds of kindness we sow today will grow, and one day we will reap what we have sown - some in this life, but definitely in the life to come!
I love you, all my kind family members and friends! Wish I could give you a physical hug today, but I trust this blog post will let you feel my hug to you through cyberspace.
Until tomorrow when, Lord willing, we'll meet again to share a spoonful....
My kind sister,
ReplyDeleteAnd be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God, for Christ's sake, hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:32
What a glorious combination kindness and forgiveness are!
Love you much,
Your brother
Thank you, my dear brother, for your comment! Great combination, indeed, kindness & forgiveness!
DeleteLove you, too, very much....

DeleteI appreciate the comments and compliments, and I purpose to practice what I "preach".
