Philippians 4:6-7
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Good morning, everybody!
Have you ever heard the statement about "not knowing whether you're washing or hanging out"? Some days are like that. Some days you wake up feeling as if you've been through the wringer, and it is still morning! Back in the early sixties my parents bought a wringer washing machine, so I have a vivid recollection of what that mechanism could do!
Does God want us to be anxious about anything? NO! His Word declares, through Bro. Paul, that we are to be "careful (or anxious) for nothing". NOTHING? That's what it says. NOTHING!! Some days I'm anxious about EVERYTHING. And, the more I stew about something, the more anxious I become.
Until.... oh, yes, until, I pray about it. That's the key. The scripture doesn't tell us to simply be careful about nothing, but it gives us the remedy. Go to God in prayer whenever we are feeling uptight about life and its events. After praying, then, and only then, does the peace of God - Oh, that peace that "passeth all understanding" shall keep us.... keep our hearts and our MINDS - through Christ Jesus.
Today's to-do list seems much longer than my arm, but I know I need to talk to the Lord about it, asking Him to guide me through the to-do list of my day. I know if I take it to the Lord in prayer, everything will be all right. Without prayer, I cannot hope for peace during the pressure; but, with prayer, the pressure lessens and the peace takes over. Thank God that He is as near as the mention of His sweet name - Jesus!
A sweet, old hymn is on my mind today, so I'll close today's post with its lyrics:
Peace, Peace, Wonderful Peace
Words by: Warnell D. Cornell
Music by: W. George Cooper
Verse One
Far away in the depths of my spirit tonight
Rolls a melody sweeter than psalm;
In celestial strains it unceasingly falls
O'er my soul like an infinite calm
Chorus
Peace, peace, wonderful peace
Coming down from the Father above
Sweep over my spirit forever I pray
In fathomless billows of love!
Verse Two
What a treasure I have in this wonderful peace
Buried deep in the heart of my soul
So secure that no power can mine it away
While the years of eternity roll
Verse Three
I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace
Resting sweetly in Jesus' control
For I'm kept from all danger by night and by day
And His glory is flooding my soul
Verse Four
And I think when I rise to that city of peace
Where the Anchor of peace I shall see
That one strain of the song which the ransomed will sing
In that heavenly kingdom will be:
Verse Five
Ah! soul! are you here without comfort and rest
Marching down the rough pathway of time?
Make Jesus your Friend ere the shadows grow dark
O accept of this peace so sublime!
May we all trust the Lord with our tasks today, and feel His peace in the midst of our struggles.
God bless you, one and all! Lord willing, I'll see you tomorrow for another spoonful!
