Psalm 113:9
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.
Good morning..... it's Marvelous Monday again!
I was blessed this past Saturday to attend a Mother's Day banquet for the ladies of the church where my son-in-law is the pastor. A dear friend of my daughter and I drove up together to help out and to enjoy this special event. We had a wonderful time and it did my heart so much good to see my daughter in the role of pastor's wife where years before I had been in that role (in another church).
The theme was Ties That Bind, with beautiful aprons on display, and many of the participants brought aprons with them. Door prizes included some homemade aprons that were lovely to say the least. There was food, fun and fellowship. Such a variety of women and a few children attended the special meeting; new friends were made, and we all left feeling like we had had a great time.
I spoke for just a few minutes about "Ties That Bind", with reference to my mother, who taught me so much about how to be a lady, to keep house, to cook and sew; how I was tied to her proverbial apron strings. My mother's hunger for more in her life led her to church where she received the Holy Ghost when I was almost nine years old. Then, Mom helped to show me how to become wrapped up, tied up, and tangled up with Jesus' apron strings! Natural apron strings can become frayed and torn, even mothers are taken away from us, leaving broken ties, but Jesus will never let go of us.
My mother passed on so much to me; I passed it on to my daughter; now she's passing it on to her children. The apron strings continue to be tied and held on to, something for which I am extremely grateful. There's nothing better to pass on to a child than a love for God and His Word. When you see that child grasp ahold of God at an early age and keep walking with Him, well, it does a mother a heap of good!
Thanks, Heidi (I know you'll read this blog post) for the great time we had and for inviting me to speak to your ladies. My heart is overwhelmed watching you work with people, and to carry on the legacy handed down to you!
Rather than a song, here's a quote by Billy Graham:
The greatest legacy one can pass on to one's children and grandchildren is not money or other material things accumulated in one's life, but rather a legacy of character and faith.
This is one grateful Mom bidding you farewell, until tomorrow, Lord willing..........
