Tuesday's Tidbit

Psalm 3:3-5

But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.

Good morning, family and friends!
This past Sunday, I was privileged to be in service with my son-in-law and daughter, plus two of my grandsons. My son-in-law, Heath, preached a wonderful message in both services but I'd like to share a few tidbits from the Sunday morning sermon.
At the beginning of Psalm 3, we read: "A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son." Imagine that, a father running from his own son. How awful, but that was exactly what was happening in David's life at the time he is writing this Psalm. The first two verses reveal to us David's feelings - the number of those who troubled him had increased, and some were even saying that David would receive no help from God.
But David wrote that His God was His shield; His glory, and the lifter up of his head. With trouble on every side, David cried to the only One who could help him - and God heard David's cry. "Selah", or, as Heath pointed out, "Think about it." No matter who was chasing him, David knew his source of help was in God, and God did not forsake him during his trouble.
David prayed and put all his anxiety into God's hands, God answered, and then David slept. What a beautiful formula of how to handle life - pray, receive your answer from God, then sleep. The enemies were after David, but God held them at bay so His servant could sleep.
Life is full of anxiety and trouble. Perhaps we might even feel at times like we're being chased by the devil and his ugly imps, but we can follow David's example by crying out to our God, and once again, He will hear and answer, protect us and give us rest!
Here's our spoonful of song tonic for today:
God is my refuge and strength
My refuge in time of trouble, trouble
God is my refuge and strength
My refuge in time of trouble
And He will hide me
Under the rock
Under the rock
Under the rock
And He will hide me
Under the rock
Safe in the time of trouble

In the midst of whatever battle you're facing, pray - God still hears and answers. Then, REST - Your SHIELD is watching over you!  Selah - think about it!!
Until tomorrow, Lord willing.........
