Matthew 14:25-28
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.
26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.
27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.
28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
Good morning, Family and Friends!
During the past few days, we have heard of storms taking place in different areas around our nation. Oh, what damage has been done by these storms. Houses destroyed, trees uprooted, 18-wheelers toppled, etc. Storms are bad news. When people are warned of threatening weather, a degree of fear and panic grips their hearts.
Such was the case with the disciples. Jesus had told them to get in a ship while He sent the multitudes away. Once He was alone, He found a place to pray. But all was not well upon the waters. The disciples found themselves in the midst of a storm at sea without the Lord (or so they thought).
In the "fourth watch of the night," (one commentary indicates it was three o'clock in the morning), Jesus walked on the water, right on top of the contrary waves, headed for their boat. They were so afraid that they thought it was a ghost, but Jesus said, "Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid." If I could say it in my words, "It's okay; I'm here - right in the midst of your storm."
Isn't that how it really is? Just when life's waves are so boisterous, if we look real close, we can see Jesus above it all. He's the maker of the rain. He created the wind. Why do we fear when He is always near? And, just like Peter, we can walk on top of our troubles with Jesus, as long as we keep our eyes focused on Him!
Whatever you're facing today, remember Jesus knows all about it, and He is still well able to calm your storm. He remains the Peace Speaker!
I love this song, written by Geron & Becky Davis:
I know the Peace Speaker
I know Him by name
I know the Peace Speaker
He controls the wind and rain
When He says, "Peace be still"
They have to obey
I'm glad I know the Peace Speaker
I know Him by name
Trust Him today; He still speaks peace!
Until tomorrow, Lord willing................
