Matthew 10:29-31
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Good morning - Wonderful Wednesday to one and all!
I received a text from our daughter late last night, asking that we pray because they were under a tornado warning in north Texas. Although I was just about to retire for the night, sleep took second place because prayer for my family's safety was the first priority. How can a mother sleep knowing her family is in danger? I prayed awhile, then I checked for updates from her. Finally, the words I wanted to read... "We're okay... it's moved further north." Thank You, Jesus!!!
Matthew 10:29 tells us that one sparrow shall not fall to the ground without our Father knowing it. Why? Because God is watching sparrows. Those little plain, insignificant birds aren't even aware that they are being watched. They just go about their business, soaring whenever and wherever they choose - carefree as can be.
How much more then does our Father in heaven watch over us? He even knows the number of hairs on our heads! That's amazing. We need not fear, and we should not fear, because we are instructed to "Fear not...." We are of more value than the little sparrow!
Can we learn a lesson from a bird today, and soar to new heights, while enjoying the beauty of all that's around us? Can we attempt to rest in our God, knowing His eye is on us at all times? Or, will we fret about, fearful of what is happening, or conjuring up what could happen? Something to ponder. Our God wants us to trust Him.
This very old yet still precious hymn, written by Civilla D. Martin in 1905, says it best:
Verse One
Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home?
When Jesus is my portion. a constant Friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
Chorus
I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
For His eye is on the sparrow
And I know He watches me
Verse Two
Let not your heart be troubled, His tender word I hear
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I can see
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
Verse Three
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise
When songs give way to sighing, when hope within me dies
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me
I'm so grateful that my God is watching over me today, and He thinks I'm valuable!!
Until tomorrow, Lord willing.................
