John 13:23
Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
Good morning, and a Wonderful Wednesday to you all!
Beloved Brother John, one of my favorite Bible people. Throughout the four gospels, no one writes about Jesus like John. I often wonder, was he the only disciple that ever leaned on Jesus' bosom? Sometimes I have even wondered if the other disciples felt put out because John seemed to always sit near Jesus? We can easily see that John knew that Jesus loved him. That's a close friendship.
If a person leans on another's bosom, what does that person feel or hear? The one leaning feels the heartbeat of the one he's leaning on. I love this. As John leaned on Jesus, he felt Jesus' heartbeat!! When we are that close to someone, we feel something so intense and deep. Even though we cannot lean on a physical body, we can be close enough to the Lord to feel His heartbeat.
What is the heartbeat of Jesus? He came to earth to seek and save that which was lost. He was moved with compassion when He saw the multitudes. He wept at the tomb of His friend, Lazarus. He was God in power but the man part of Jesus felt pain, compassion, hurt, etc. He cared for people. So, if we lean on Him much like John did, we will feel His compassion, etc.
We cannot expect to really know the Lord if we do not spend time in His presence. Through prayer, fasting, reading His Word, attending church, praising and worshipping, and reaching out to the lost - that's how we grow close to Him; that's how we become like Him. I want to be like Him, loving what He loves, and hating what He hates.
Here's a sweet chorus I've known most of my life:
To be like Jesus
To be like Jesus
On earth I long to be like Him
All through life's journey
From earth to glory
I only ask to be like Him
I like to think that John often whispered to Jesus, "I love You," and I believe Jesus often whispered back, "I love you, too, John." Let's spend time in the presence of Jesus today, and I believe if WE whisper to Him our love, we'll hear HIM whisper back, "I love you, too."
Until tomorrow, Lord willing................
